Acne can be a devastating skin condition which is most often associated with the teen population but can affect individuals of all ages. Acne has significant negative effects on ones self confidence (especially with moderate to severe cases) and can lead to feelings of shame and embarrassment. The other complication of acne is that the damage can literally scar a person for life.

It is particularly difficult with acne because although it often does show up on other parts of the body it primarily develops on the face. It is understandable why one would feel distressed, frustrated and often at a loss with no idea where to turn.

Although the cause of acne is unknown; the mechanics behind the disease are understood. The general consensus is that due to hormonal levels the sebaceous gland enlarges and secretes larger amounts of sebum or oil. The sebum then combines with the cells lining these glands and causes them to clog the skin pores.  Anyone who has trouble with acne should educate themselves on acne skin care; after all there are many different acne skin care products and tips that one can use in order to not only relieve their acne but possibly even eliminate it entirely. The ultimate goal of acne treatment is to minimize scarring and relieve symptoms, however if you have any concerns see a dermatologist for advice.

There are several external factors that can cause acne to worsen such as hard scrubbing, trying to expel them or using oily cosmetics or soaps. Therefore it is best to stay away from products that have too much moisturizer in them and try your best not to touch or scrub them with any force. It is also important to take time when looking for an acne skin care product, because although there are certainly many great options there are also many which simply do not work or that just work to deal with the current outbreak. This is the main problem with many over the counter solutions; they don’t address the issue of further outbreaks.

The Murad Acne Complex is a relatively new skin treatment system that can help heal blemishes and acne and also prevent future breakouts from occurring. This is definitely one of the best acne products on the market, and seems to be helping a great number of people who have not had success with other products. This is basically an acne skin care system which includes a clarifying cleanser, exfoliating treatment gel, and skin perfecting lotion. One of the best features to this system is that it contains the active ingredient Salicylic Acid which many believe is a great alternative to Benzoyl Peroxide which many of competing systems contain. The other promising feature is that the results are almost immediate, and then continue to improve over time.

Accutane is another of the most effective acne treatments, and is a product that is taken as a medication. It is extremely successful in the treating of acne but is usually only recommended to those who have had persistent and severe acne because it comes with many side effects and some of them may be permanent. These include but are not limited to bone and joint pain and dryness of the skin, lips, and eyes. As with going on any medication only you and your Doctor can decide what is best for you.

The best course of action is to follow a scientifically backed daily skincare regimen for controlling acne. Good skin care habits that include daily washing are important to maintain skin health and clear excess oil away. Practicing good skin care can help control mild acne, but scar tissue can result if moderate to severe cases are not addressed by a professional. It should be noted that keeping the skin clean will not prevent acne from occurring but will minimize the chances of infection and help existing acne lesions heal. If you are unsure about your skin condition or what treatment plans you should consider see a dermatologist.
