When You Are In Your 20’s

This is the age of prevention and is the most important decade for skin care because you have a perfect canvas in the sense that your skin now is at its peek. Your skin at this age has great collagen support, the best you are going to get and environmental damage is not yet seen. Therefore how you decide to care for your skin now will determine how it will look and age in the future.

The biggest skin complaint while navigating the twenties is still the dreaded acne. Acne can be caused by a number of factors such as hormonal changes (pregnancy), stress or using the wrong products. The oil glands of the skin will over produce is you are using dehydrating products. This causes a nasty cycle in that as you try to get rid of the natural oils your oil glands continually produce more to compensate for what is being taken away.

Individuals in their twenties do not need to be using anti wrinkle or micro abrasion creams or cleansers, treating a problem that is not there will not get you the results you are looking for. Instead focus on prevention and skin protection. Use a gentle cleanser regularly not obsessively. Be gentle with your skin, it does not take much to cause micro abrasions or bruising of the skin tissue (these are not visible).

A good moisturizer is always important but be sure that it contains an SPF of at least 15 and that protects against UVA and UVB rays; the higher the better. In addition, apply your chosen moisturizer to not only your face but to your neck and chest area, you don’t want to have beautiful facial skin and a neck that is reminiscent of a turtle. The skin of your chest and neck also requires a moisturizer with at least 15 SPF because they are highly susceptible to sun damage.

Many individuals have the view that if their skin does not look or feel dry that they do not need to moisturize. This is simple not true. Use a moisturizer that you enjoy using and that makes your skin the way you like it, there are really nice foam products that leave your skin soft and feeling great and not weighed down. You will notice that once you keep your skin and face hydrated that you will have a healthy glow as well your make up will look smooth and natural. Make up tends to look thick or caked on, uneven and crackly when it is applied to dry skin.

At night use a hydrating fluid or an oil free moisturizer that contains retinol, there are plenty to choose from. This will help combat acne, keep collagen strong, and prevent fine lines. Again protection and prevention are the key to skin care in your 20’s.
